Jay Desai

Dr. Jay Amrish Desai has extensive experience teaching courses in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering. He was a part of faculty team in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at VNIT Nagpur (India). He has conducted over 700 hours of lectures (online and offline combined) in a range of subjects including physical metallurgy and heat treatment of metals and alloys, ceramics and refractories, particulate technology, mineral processing, steel making technology, and non-destructive evaluation. He completed his B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from VNIT Nagpur (India) and IIT Kharagpur (India) respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso (USA) where he worked on the synthesis of 2-D Materials (graphene, WS2, and h-BN), device fabrication (photodetectors and photocapacitors) from the same, and studying the device's properties by optoelectronic measurements. He has hands-on experience in additive manufacturing, metal processing, and characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, Nanoindentation, Raman Spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy). He has presented at various international conferences and invited talks. He has authored science-related blogs, and published journal papers and educational and informational videos on his YouTube channel "Explore Materials & Metallurgy with Dr. Jay Desai". He is passionate about teaching and is always excited to contribute to the development of future-ready engineers, scientists, and professionals by teaching courses with practical examples and industry significance to students and professionals worldwide.
